lyrics

I was sitting in my room a little bored, a little sad
When the telephone rang, it was a call from my dad
It seemed a little early for him to call, like there's something I'm not knowing
But I answered the phone, I said, "Hey dad, how's it going?"

I was stopped in my tracks as I was slipping on my shoes
It wasn't dad, it was my mom. She said, "I have some very bad news,"
She was crying so loudly, I couldn't hear what she said
And I asked, "Is dad alive?" And she said, "No, dad is dead."

They were hiking with their friends at 13,000 feet
But at three miles in, dad said he felt weak
They took some weight off his pack and kept moving right along
And then dad turned to Glen and said, "My body feels wrong."

So they all agreed to stop for a break and a snack
And dad said, "I don't know why I can't carry this pack."
He sat himself down and said his hands felt numb
No one would have thought that his time had come

He had one last gasp and no more words were said
His body started shaking and his face turned blue and red
And then within an instant it was over and done
They took turns with CPR in the afternoon sun

Then the helicopter came and they strapped him to a gurney
Mom said, "Can you save him?" And they said, "I'm sorry!"
So they flew down the mountain to the coroner there
That's when she called me. I said, It's not fucking fair

la, la, la, la, la, la, la
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
